I ushered in 2025 by moving into a bigger apartment. After three years in a tight-quarters studio, I upgraded to a roomy one-bedroom, and as a shopping editor, I was determined to furnish it quickly. My new living room is much more spacious than my previous one, so I’m making the most of it with organizational furniture. This ladder bookcase takes up minimal floor space and offers a spot for my books, picture frames, and house plants. After three years of living in my previous apartment with abundant natural light, you’d think I would have figured out the whole house plant thing—wrong. I want the pops of greenery that plants add to my space without the headache of needing to keep them alive, so I’ll be adding this philodendron bush to my living room on a plant stand for the same effect. I also don’t have to worry about my dog eating dirt or leaves like he did with my real plants.

I rarely use the built-in lighting in my apartment since it’s often too harsh. I prefer adding table lamps like this rattan style for a warm, ambient light that feels much cozier.
