Ikea launches 21 Matter smart home devices for easy integration

Ikea is taking a refreshed step into the smart home space with the announcement of 21 new devices that all support the Matter standard. The lineup covers everything from lighting to environmental sensors and control accessories, marking Ikea’s most comprehensive smart home expansion yet. The Swedish company says its goal is to remove the complexity and cost barriers that have kept many people from adopting smart home tech.

At the heart of the launch is the Kajplats lighting series, which includes eleven different bulb models. These range from standard E27 and E26 socket bulbs to compact E14 and GU10 spotlight versions. Every bulb supports dimming, adjustable white light, and full color control for customizable ambience. Ikea hasn’t forgotten about design either — some models come with clear glass for decorative use, including a striking 95 mm globe that fits open fixtures or pendant lamps perfectly.

Then come the sensors, which cover pretty much every monitoring task you could think of. The Myggspray motion sensor can be used both indoors and outdoors to automatically activate lights or scenes when movement is detected. Myggbett handles door and window monitoring, alerting you if they’re opened. For climate tracking, Timmerflotte records temperature and humidity, while Alpstuga goes further by checking air quality — including CO₂ and particulate matter. Rounding out the lineup is Klippbok, a water leak detector that triggers both an audible alarm and a notification on your phone.

To manage and control all this hardware, Ikea is introducing the Bilresa remote and the Grillplats smart plug. Bilresa comes in two styles — one with a simple dual-button layout and another with a scroll wheel for brightness control and quick scene switching. Grillplats, meanwhile, turns any plugged-in device into a smart one, complete with energy consumption readouts and remote switching. Pair it with a motion sensor or a Bilresa remote, and you can automate everything from lamps to coffee makers.

All of these new products work within the Matter ecosystem, which means they’ll integrate not just with Ikea’s own platform but also with other brands’ devices that support the same standard. The updated Dirigera hub is the centerpiece that ties everything together, acting as the main gateway for Ikea’s and third-party Matter devices alike.

With this lineup, Ikea isn’t chasing luxury automation — it’s building a practical, user-friendly ecosystem that anyone can set up. The new range should roll out gradually through 2025, making it easier than ever for users to start building an interoperable smart home setup without spending a fortune or getting lost in multiple apps.
