The new Meross Matter Smart Home Thermostat works with HomeKit and other smart-home platforms, offering an affordable entry point at $70 (limited time price, regular $99.99), the company said Thursday. And the new device represents one of only a few Matter-compatible smart thermostats currently available for U.S. HVAC systems.

The new Meross Matter Smart Home Thermostat features a minimalist design with a white glass panel and LED display. It allows users to control their home’s temperature through multiple interfaces. They includes Apple’s Home app, Siri voice commands, the Meross app or direct touch controls on the device. And thanks to Matter protocol integration, the thermostat works seamlessly with HomeKit while also supporting other major smart home platforms including Amazon Alexa, Google Home and Samsung SmartThings.

As a devices that works with the Matter smart-home automation tech standard, it’s designed for broad compatibility. The Meross Matter Smart Home Thermostat works with about 95% of North American heating and cooling systems, including single and multi-stage furnaces, boilers, air conditioners, heat pumps, and fan coil units, the company said.

In the current smart thermostat market, Meross’s offering joins a select group of Matter-enabled devices, with Google’s Nest Thermostat ($129.99) and Nest Learning Thermostat 4th Gen ($279.99) being the only other options. Other anufacturers, like Ecobee, Amazon and Honeywell Home, have yet to implement Matter support in their thermostats. That makes this new release particularly significant for HomeKit users seeking an affordable, platform-agnostic solution.

Installation of the new Meross thermostat requires a C-wire for power supply, and the device can integrate with Meross’ Matter-compatible temperature and humidity sensors (sold separately at $30 each with a required Meross hub).

And the thermostat offers energy-saving features through its smart scheduling capability. It automatically adjusts temperatures based on occupancy. Users can track their heating and cooling usage through the Meross app. And they can incorporate it into broader HomeKit automations with other smart home products.
