Northern Kentucky couple receives home renovation surprise after health challenges
A Northern Kentucky couple received the gift of a lifetime on Wednesday.After almost 60 years of marriage and some major health challenges, Marilyn and Edward Appiarius’ daughter started a home renovation process to make their home more accessible.Marilyn and Edward have lived in the same house since 1998. It was built in the 1950s and wasn’t renovated until now.On Wednesday, WLWT was there as the couple walked inside the house for the first time since the renovations for an amazing reveal.The view of Cincinnati from their house in Bellevue was about the only thing that was still the same.”We added on exterior paint, siding, we did gutters, we did a deck, we did a front deck for a handicapped ramp,” Keith Devlin with Devlin Remodeling said.The couple had big plans for improving their home and had put money aside. Their daughter had a vision as well.Celeste Rouse hired Devlin Remodeling to help make the home safer for her parents.Edward is a veteran and amputee, while Marilyn kept falling inside their home.Devlin not only answered the call but went above and beyond, putting an extra $8,000 towards the project and more man-hours from his company to make the renovation complete.For him, it was a labor of love.”This company was founded by my father 30 years ago, 35 years ago, he passed away in January. And I told her I was like, if there was something I could have done for him in the same aspect, I 100% would have done it,” Devlin said.Reacting to the reveal on Wednesday, Marilyn was amazed by the new house.”It’s fantastic. I can’t believe it. I can’t believe it’s the same house,” Marilyn said.
