Pantone has announced its Color of the Year for 2026, and unexpectedly, it’s white – an off-white, to be precise. PANTONE 11-4201 Cloud Dancer is a calming, ethereal shade that’s not quite a brilliant white, but it’s not overly nuanced either – it’s just a nice white.
It’s the first time Pantone has selected a white shade as its Color of the Year since 1999, when the inaugural hue was announced at the turn of the millennium (which was a very bold Cerulean). It feels like a reset, which, after a year of constantly changing – albeit exciting – color trends, feels right. It’s a moment to strip things back, to pause, and to look at what is essentially a blank canvas.
Of course, Pantone’s Color of the Year always goes beyond being just a hyped-up shade; it also coincides with creative initiatives. In 2026, Pantone will bring the ‘blank canvas’ that Cloud Dancer represents to life by inspiring and spotlighting artists to create their own interpretations of the Color of the Year.
