Phillips Collection CEO talks 2025 growth strategy for furniture, decor

HIGH POINT — Fresh on the heels of a Green Award win at the annual ART (Accessories Resource Team) Award gala in Dallas, CEO Jason Phillips is kicking off his first year in the top leadership role at Phillips Collection with gratitude and resolve.

Phillips assumed the CEO position on Dec. 1 after his father, Mark Phillips, transitioned to chairman. The ARTS Award acknowledges Phillips Collections’ continued commitment to sustainability and also underscores one of the new CEO’s goals for 2025.

“The Green Award is a testament to decades of hard work, dedication and a shared commitment to sustainability,” said Jason Phillips. “It’s particularly meaningful because it reflects not only our products, but (also) our processes, partnerships, and mindset. For us, sustainability isn’t just a trend; it’s a core part of our DNA. This honor is both a validation of our efforts and a reminder of our responsibility to lead by example.”

Since assuming the leadership role, Phillips has spent time with the company’s internal team, outlining next steps and growth strategies. He said the feedback from the company’s employees has been invaluable as the industry kicks off the new year.

“The biggest surprise has been the overwhelming enthusiasm and ideas coming from the team,” said Phillips. “While I knew we had a talented group, I’ve been blown away by how aligned everyone is with our vision and how eager they are to push boundaries. It’s been energizing to see how much potential there is to elevate the Phillips Collection brand through collective creativity and collaboration.”

Areas for growth

In addition to the ongoing sustainability initiatives, Phillips noted that there are several areas that he’ll be focused on with an eye on growing the company. These areas include innovation through technology, sourcing and sustainability, and customer experience.

“We’re leveraging AI (artificial intelligence) to refine our operations, from better forecasting customer demand to improving personalization in our marketing efforts,” Phillips said. “Technology is central to staying competitive.

“Expanding our use of renewable and responsibly sourced materials is a top priority,” he continued. “We’re also exploring partnerships with artisans and suppliers who align with our values. For customer experience, we’re strengthening how we engage with designers and retailers. From showroom experiences to online tools, we’re focused on making every interaction seamless, inspiring and memorable.”

Phillips said there are several exciting initiatives that will be unveiled throughout 2025, including an expansion of the multicategory line.

“First, we’re expanding our product offerings to include more whole-home furniture collections, which will debut later this year,” he said. “We’re also deepening our digital investments to better serve our trade partners and enhance online experiences. Lastly, our commitment to sustainability continues with the launch of new eco-friendly designs, showcasing our leadership in sustainable innovation.”

Acknowledging that sustainability is often viewed through many different perspectives, Phillips said that he encourages home furnishings companies to take another look at the return on investment.

“Sustainability isn’t an expense; it’s an investment in the future,” he said. “While there may be upfront costs, the long-term benefits — operational efficiency, customer loyalty and market differentiation — far outweigh them. Consumers and partners increasingly demand accountability, and companies that ignore this risk becoming obsolete.

“As I like to say, ‘It’s not even a gray area; it’s a green area.’ Doing the right thing for the planet ultimately drives business success.”
